BAU: A senior citizen has gone missing at Pekan Tondong here after failing to return home at Jalan Selalang since Wednesday afternoon (Sept 9).

The 77-year-old male victim identified as Kuan Joon Ted was believed to be senile. He is often seen walking around the Pan Borneo route from Selalang to Tondong back and forth.

He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt and blue shorts.

According to Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operations centre (PGO), his disappearance was only reported to Bomba around 9.23am on Saturday (Sept 12).

Following the report, the Bau fire station despatched a search and rescue (SAR) team to the location he was believed to be missing, namely at Pekan Tondong.

“The victim’s son stated that the victim had left the house at Selalang on foot to Tondong via Pan Borneo route around 12.30pm on Wednesday.

“He was expected to return home by himself or usually sent home by anyone who knew him,” Bomba said in a statement.

His son also claimed to have been advising him (the victim) not to leave the house but this fell on deaf ears as far as the victim was concerned.

The statement added, “Due to lack of information, the Bomba could not determine the search area and radius.

“After discussions and agreement with the family and the police, the operation is postponed until a new lead is found.

“The operation ends at 1.15pm on Saturday,” it concluded.
