KUCHING: A body believed to be that of 76-year-old Denis Nyawod, a resident of Kampung Kakeng in Serian, was found today about 3 kilometres from his village, after he was reported missing on May 18.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) received a call at 2.25 pm on June 6, prompting a team from the Serian station to respond and recover the body from the jungle near Sungai Kakeng.

The remains were then transported back to Kampung Kakeng and handed over to the police for further investigation.

Denis, who suffered from dementia, had been the focus of a search and rescue operation initiated by Bomba and other emergency services on the day he went missing.

Despite extensive efforts, the search was halted on May 25 after eight days without success. The police are currently working to confirm the identity of the body.
