BINTANGOR: A group of 50 senior citizens, poor and persons with disabilities (OKU) received contributions in the form of food essentials under the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) ziarah programme, which is currently touring Meradong constituency to help the needy there.
Meradong assemblyman Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing officiated at the distribution of the contributions at Sungai Bakong, Bintangor on Saturday (July 24).
He expressed his appreciation to Ukas for its willingness to help ease the burden of the needy in his constituency.
He also lauded the local community leaders in Kampung Cina for their efforts in gathering all residents in the area to receive the Covid-19 vaccination recently.
Meanwhile, Pemanca Yii Hee Sieng also welcomed the Ukas ziarah programme as a beneficial platform to assist the needy in Meradong.
He said the programme, to some extent, eased the burden of needy families. He said it also showed the concern and care of the Sarawak government towards the welfare of the people.
A similar programme was held on Friday at the Meradong district office hall, during which 50 recipients comprising the poor (asnaf), OKU, and senior citizens from around Meradong received essential rood supplies.
