SIBU: SMK St Elizabeth’s Old Students’ Association (SEOSA) has encouraged all the school’s former students to join the association.

In giving this encouragement, its president Elizabeth Tang said SEOSA wishes more former students would join hands to do small things with great love for their alma mater in one way or another.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony of SEOSA’s academic incentives to members’ children held at a cafe in Jalan Pahlawan here today, she quoted Mother Teresa saying, “Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love”.

A total of 18 members’ children who excelled in public examinations this year were awarded academic incentives. Out of the number, eight of them were for Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM), five each for Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia (STPM) and Unified Examination Certificate (UEC).

Tang stated that every year since 2012, SEOSA has been giving away such academic incentives and this year is the eleventh year.

According to her, the role of SEOSA is to support and assist the school in its progress and development.

For instance, she pointed out it has collaborated with the PIBG (Parent-Teacher Association) of the school to organise cultural night which is an annual event that aims to explore the potential and talents of the students.

She related that SEOSA also assisted to upgrade the school’s computer room, and Public Address (PA) system in the school hall as well as participating in the beautification of the school compound.

Stating that a welfare fund has been set up to give a helping hand to needy students in the school, she said SEOSA also serves as a link between the school and the former students such as assisting to get the former students to visit the school.

“We provide a platform for former students to gather together for fellowship and reunion. To that end, the reunion banquet is organised annually for the old girls from far and near to mingle and catch up with their fellow schoolmates and teachers.
