KUCHING: Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Public Complaints Bureau chief cum SUPP Kota Sentosa branch chairman Wilfred Yap wishes every Malaysian, “Selamat Menyambut Hari Malaysia”.
He urged the people to maintain the harmony and understanding which “binds us all together as one community”.
He also stressed on the significance of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) — an International Treaty signed on July 7, 1963.
“The agreement points to the fact that the one and only true date of Malaysia’s formation is Sept 16, 1963 which comprise the Federation of Malaya, North Borneo (Sabah), Sarawak and Singapore. However, Singapore left Malaysia on Aug 9, 1965.”
Yap also called on the present federal government to address the genuine grievances of Sarawakians and Sabahans.
“Place the priority on recognising Sabah and Sarawak as equal partners with the states of Malaya and return the rights accorded to them under MA63.
“The rights of Sabah and Sarawak must be respected by the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government.
“As we celebrate Malaysia Day, let us all strive to enhance the spirit of patriotism and recommit ourselves to further develop and strengthen the unity and understanding between the people of Sarawak, Sabah and Malaya with trust and respect for one another,” he said.
