SERIAN: Police are investigating the incident of a group of individuals who held a protest in front of the Serian market against expensive rental lot prices for festivals.
“It is understood that they only came to take pictures (before leaving). However, police will conduct further investigations, Serian police chief DSP Aswandy Anis said when asked if any action would be taken against the protesters.
Earlier, a group of small entrepreneurs organised a “peaceful” demonstration by holding up manila papers to protest the high rental lot prices during festivals in Sarawak.
The messages on the papers appealed for the ‘exorbitant’ rental lot prices for festivals to be reduced. The protesters also gave examples of the rental lot prices during Pesta Simunjan and Pesta Marudi which charged RM4,800 and RM1,200 respectively.
Photos of their protest had gone viral on Facebook.
