SERIAN: A family of 10 was left homeless yesterday (May 30) after their house in Kampung Panchor Dayak was destroyed by fire.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said it received a distress call at 9.05 pm, prompting a dispatch of Serian and Siburan firefighters to the scene.
“Upon arrival, the team discovered that a house measuring 30×20 square feet was already engulfed in flames.
“The firefighters immediately deployed one hose line to stop the fire from spreading to a neighbouring house, which was partially affected.
“Utilising both offensive and defensive firefighting techniques, the team laid out a 100-foot hose line, drawing water from a nearby palm oil mill,” it said.
Their prompt and strategic response ensured that the fire in the neighbouring house, measuring approximately 150×70 square feet, was limited to only 30 per cent damage.
The firefighting efforts brought the blaze under control by 10.18 pm and the operation ended at 11.04 pm.
Fortunately, there were no injuries reported among the occupants of the house, which included three adult males, four adult females, and three male children.
