KUCHING: The Serian Industrial Training Institute (ILP) construction project, which commenced on April 28, 2018, is scheduled to be completed on Aug 28, 2022.
According to Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) news report, Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri Saravanan Murugan said the project included the construction of five blocks of training workshops, administrative building, hostel building, quarters building, surau and sports facilities.
“The progress status for this project as of January 2022 is about 56.42 per cent compared to the schedule progress of 81.81 per cent, a delay of 25.39 per cent.
“The delay that occurred is due to the effect of the Movement Control Order (MCO) announced by the government as well as the instruction to close the construction sites due to COVID-19 infection cases,” he said.
He said this in response to a question from Serian MP Datuk Seri Richard Riot Jaem at the Parliament sitting recently.
He also said that there were instructions pertaining to work change that had been issued to the contractor following the change in the scope of work which also contributed to the project’s delay.
