KOTA SAMARAHAN: The Serian Industrial Training Institute (ILP) is expected to be completed next year and will be the 33rd skills institution in Malaysia.
Kota Samarahan MP Datuk Rubiah Wang said with the existence of such a skills institution, she believed it would open up more opportunities for locals to participate.
“Currently, there are 32 institutes nationwide under the Manpower Department (JTM). Next year (2023) the 33rd institute, ILP Serian in Sarawak, is expected to be completed.”
She said this at the JTM Training Institution (ILJTM) Eastern Region Convocation Ceremony at ILP Kota Samarahan here on Wednesday (June 15).
ILP Serian is developed on a land measuring 22.9 hectares and can accommodate about 600 students at any one time.
In this regard, explaining the importance of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), she said the sector had also supported economic growth in Malaysia.
“TVET plays an important role in providing the skilled manpower needed by various sectors in the country.
“And since 1964, JTM has also trained the skilled manpower needed by the industries through the first institute established, ILP Kuala Lumpur.
“Indeed, skilled workers are important human capital to ensure continuity in terms of economic development and prosperity in our country.
“You (graduates of ILP Kota Samarahan) are the next generation who will continue the efforts of previous generations in developing our country to become a prosperous one,” she stressed.
