KUCHING: Serian became the third district to be hit by the third wave of floods in Sarawak when 55 residents in two villages had to be evacuated since yesterday afternoon, bringing the total number of evacuees to 140 people.
According to a report by the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) Secretariat, 32 of the flood victims in the district are from six families in Kampung Slabi Entukuh, about 70km from Kuching city, and they are being accommodated at a relief centre (PPS) at a community hall in the village.
There were also 23 victims, comprising five families, who were evacuated from Kampung Melayu Tebakang Serian, about 72 km from Kuching, to the PPS at Dewan Sekolah Kebangsaan Tebakang, which was opened at 4m pm yesterday.
The remaining flood victims comprise 77 people, involving 27 families from the Kulleh Longhouse, Nanga Embuau, in Song district, about 110 km from Sibu, who are at the PPS at SK Nanga Embuau since last Tuesday, and eight people, comprising two families, from Kampung Dagang Tatau, who are at the PPS at Tatau Sports Hall, in the Tatau district, about 60km from Bintulu town. – Bernama
