SERIAN: The Serian district has been selected to host the Health Carnival 2024 in conjunction with the Malaysia Nutrition Month (NMM) for Sarawak and the National Healthy Malaysia Agenda (ANMS) Roadshow.

The Minister of Public Health, Housing  and Local Government, Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, is expected to officiate the event at the Serian Conference Centre this Saturday.

According to a  media statement, the carnival, themed “Change Mindset, Prevent Nutrition-Related Diseases,” aligns with NMM and ANMS’s efforts to support and realise the government’s vision of fostering a healthy and prosperous Malaysian population by promoting healthy eating habits and an active lifestyle.

The carnival will showcase a variety of exciting activities, including the MADANI Rahmah Mobile Sale, product sales, PDRM’s summons checks, a Healthy Snack Competition, Cooking Demonstrations, a Children’s Colouring Contest, aerobics sessions, Health Screenings, the Wellness on Wheels truck, Blood Donation drives, exhibitions from various government agencies, and a lucky draw.

However, the event is divided into two phases: the first is a futsal tournament held at the Serian District Council Futsal Hall on September 14, and the second is the official launch of the carnival.

For the record, Malaysia Nutrition Month, launched in 2002, promotes healthy eating practices across communities, including school students.

Meanwhile the ANMS, approved by the Cabinet in 2020, focuses on four key pillars: fostering a culture of healthy living through improved health literacy, enhancing access to wellness facilities and services, empowering self-care for disease prevention and promoting a clean environment for public well-being.
