SIBU: Seven individuals, including three women, were arrested for alleged gambling last Tuesday.
The suspects, aged between 40 and 67, were arrested in a police raid on a house at the Nanyang Garden 6 residential area near here at 3.40pm.
One of the three women, aged 67, is also suspected of being involved in the illegal sale of lottery tickets.
Sibu deputy police chief Supt Collin Babat said police also confiscated various items.
“Among the items seized are two tables, seven plastic chairs, two sets of mahjong tiles, including 288 pieces of mahjong tiles, six pieces of dice, two pieces of clues and 60 pieces of chips,” he said in a statement yesterday.
Police also confiscated a laptop, a charging cable, a mobile phone, a modem, a modem charger cable and RM186 in cash.
“All of them will be investigated under Section 4A(a) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953 while the woman will also be investigated under Section 6 (1) of the same Act,” he said.
