KUCHING: Police arrested seven locals who allegedly burning down a house and splashing paints on another house and a furniture store recently.
The suspects were believed to be hired by a foreign ‘ah long’ syndicate through social media.
Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri said the men were for RM1,500 each to commit arson and vandalism.
On July 7, a 28-year-old victim lodged a police complaining he had received a video via WhatsApp, showing his house in Kota Samarahan being engulfed in flames.
“Investigations found that there were more incidents involving a furniture store and the victim’s other house that has been splashed with red paint.
“Following that, we have opened investigation papers under Sections 436/507 and 427/507 of the Penal Code,” he said.
Mohd Azman said the suspects were subsequently remanded for seven days from July 17 for further investigations.
The police are now actively tracking the loan shark syndicate.
He urged the public to channel any information regarding the case to Insp Mustapha Ramli at 019-8145090.
