PADAWAN: Police here arrested seven men to facilitate investigations into a recent armed riot involving 10 individuals at an eatery at Jalan Matang.
In the incident, three victims, reported to have suffered injuries, were taken to the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for further treatment.
Padawan OCPD Supt Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad, in a statement, said police had arrested seven suspects aged between 26 and 40 and seized some sharp weapons found at the scene.
A remand application will be applied to complete the investigation under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting.
The police are still tracking down other suspects who were involved in the incident.
Abang Zainal added that a police team was deployed to the scene after receiving information pertaining to the incident, which happened around 11 pm last Saturday.
“Prior to the riot, the complainant, 18, was sitting in front of an eatery with another friend before they were attacked by a group of about 10 men armed with sharp weapons.
“In the incident, the complainant’s 27-year-old friend suffered injuries to his head, legs and hands.
“Two other suspects aged 30 and 43, also suffered injuries and all three of them were taken to the SGH for treatment,” he said.
Abang Zainal disclosed that the cause of the riot was dissatisfaction with business profit distribution.
He assured that the case did not involve any particular group or gambling debt as viralled on social media.
