SARIKEI: A seven-storey pagoda of the Sarikei Buddhist Orthodox Association is soon to be constructed here.
Sarikei MP Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii has allocated RM600,000 under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) for the pagoda’s construction and expects it to be completed within a year.
Sarikei Buddhist Orthodox Association chairman Chan Phan Chan expressed his gratitude to Huang for his support and concern for religious development in the Repok constituency.
“I hope that the pagoda will be a landmark as a tourist attraction in Sarikei,” he said.
For the record, Huang had previously allocated RM200,000 for the pagoda’s construction and another RM200,000 for building a sheltered activity centre.
The Sarikei District Council Public Works Officer handed over the construction contract to the contractor on Saturday.
