LUNDU: A seven-year-old boy was among eight illegal immigrants deported back to Indonesia on Wednesday (Sept 15).
They were caught entering Sarawak via illegal routes, known locally as jalan tikus, at Kampung Biawak here.
The army’s 1st Infantry Division, in a statement, said the illegal immigrants were intercepted at around 7.30am some 300m from the border.
“The four men, three women and the seven-year-old boy did not have valid travel documents on them.”
Following questioning, the illegal immigrants admitted that they had entered Sarawak to seek out employment opportunities.
“They were arrested and later deported. A police report was also lodged for further action.”
