MIRI: Continuous rain from last night until early this morning caused flooding in several areas around Mulu and Kampung Long Bemang, affecting hundreds of residents.

According to reports by Mountain Cave Search and Rescue Team (Moscar), on May 27 from 5 pm to 6.30 pm, its team monitored several flood-prone locations, including Taman Negara Mulu, Kampung Melinau Mulu, BEM Central Mulu Church, and Sekolah Kebangsaan Batu Bungan.

Despite the nonstop rainfall, the afternoon’s monitoring revealed river levels were gradually receding. Villagers have been advised to remain vigilant due to unpredictable weather conditions, with the current weather being overcast and cloudy.

Meanwhile in Kampung Long Bemang, Baram, the flood situation remains critical as of the morning of May 28. The water level has risen to 1.6 feet, with the trend continuing upward. The weather remains overcast.

According to Long Bemang Volunteer Firefighters, the flood, which began on May 27 at 5 am, has affected 103 out of a total of 558 residents at a longhouse. Despite the rising water levels, no evacuations have been reported so far.
