KUCHING: Bandar Kuching MP Dr. Kelvin Yii wants the wheels of justice to quickly act on the recent arrest of a 30-year-old man suspected of attempting to abduct an eight-year-old girl from outside her home here.

Stressing the gravity of the situation, he emphasised the need for the full weight of the law to be applied to the alleged perpetrator, particularly given his admission to being a sex maniac.

The safety of children, he stressed, must be paramount, and no compromise can be made in ensuring their protection from such heinous acts.

“I read in horror the account of the incident by the family in their post, and no parent should need to go through such a traumatising event.

“We should be able to live in a society that is safe for our children to play in our background and even with our neighbours without the fear of such a threat to our innocent children.

“That is the Kuching that we grew up in, and we all must play our part to protect it for the good of all families living here in Kuching,” he said in a statement.

On the same note, Dr Yii expressed gratitude to law enforcement agencies and the public for their swift response in apprehending the suspect.

He called for unwavering vigilance and cooperation in reporting any suspicious activities in their neighbourhood and that the case be treated with the utmost seriousness.

In addition to immediate action, Dr Yii advocated for ongoing dialogue and collaboration with authorities to bolster safety measures within the community.

He also called for an increase in police patrols and safety initiatives to enhance public confidence in the security of their surroundings.
