KUCHING: Politicians and those who aspire to be politicians have been urged to train themselves to be professionals in the field, said Welfare, Community Well Being, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah.

She was alluding to a viralled sex video involving Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Santubong youth chief Haziq Abdullah Abdul Aziz, who uploaded a confession video to his Facebook account claiming that he is the individual in bed with another man who is allegedly a federal minister.

“When we enter politics, we have to always remember the responsibilities that we carry,” she said to reporters after officiating at a function at Blessing Care Centre here yesterday.

While urging all politicians to be more professional in performing their duties, she said, “If we want to get better positions in our field, it is always based on our abilities, capabilities, our supporters and also our sincerity. Beyond that, if it is our ‘rezeki’ then it is our ‘rezeki lah’! Getting into scandals is not the way as it is just wasting our time.”

She wants law enforcers to investigate the matter and solve it as soon as possible so that everyone could just focus on their jobs and duties without distractions.

Pointing out that as almost all Malaysians have their respective religions and beliefs, they should show good examples and practise the positive teachings of their religions.

On the general state of politics in the country, she said most of the politicians are mature and rational in their thinking and behaviour, but unfortunately there are a few who are not.

“If we look at other countries, they are different in some ways, but maybe just a few are like us,” she said.

“I still say that what is really important is to focus more on our responsibilities in serving the people who elected us into office.”
