SIBU: A “roti canai” maker who was suspected of having sexually assaulted a five-year-old girl has been arrested.
The local police chief, Assistant Commissioner Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said yesterday that the 32-year-old man was picked up from his home in Jalan Permai following a report lodged by the aunt of the victim last Sunday.
The little girl, who is from a broken family, is living with her aunt as her mother has remarried and is living with her parents in Jalan Teku. As for the suspect he was staying with the girl’s aunt for the past two years ago.
Stanley said the matter came to light about 9.30pm last Saturday when the child felt pain in her private part while taking a bath.
“Our investigation revealed that the suspect had inserted his finger into the victim’s private part while he was waiting with her on a sofa in the sitting room after giving her a bath. However, he denied it,” said Stanley.
The victim had been referred to Sibu Hospital for medical examination.
The case he said is being investigated under Section 14(d) of the 14(d) and 15(c) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.
