KUCHING: Sarawak Forwarding Agencies Association (SFAA) will be celebrating its 40th anniversary with a gala dinner on July 22 at Imperial Hotel here.
SFAA president Joseph Chung said Transportation Assistant Minister Datuk Dr Jerip Susil would be the guest of honour at the dinner expected to be attended by 1,000 guests.
He said other VIPs invited to attend the dinner are State Director of Customs, general managers of Kuching International Airport and all Sarawak ports.
Chung said presidents of all logistics associations of West Malaysia and Sabah had already confirmed their attendance.
Invitations have also been sent out to the president of Singapore Logistics Association Stanley Lim and president of Asian Freight Forwarders Association (AFFA), who is also the president of Indonesian Logistics and Forwarders Association Yuki Hanafi.
Meanwhile, SFAA committee members led by Chung paid a courtesy call on Dr Jerip recently to invite him to the dinner.
As advised by the Royal Customs Department, a group of 16 pioneer forwarding agents decided to form the Forwarding Agencies Association Kuching, which was registered on July 13, 1979.
On October 7, 2000, the association joined the national body, the Federation of Malaysian Freight Forwarders (FMFF), in accordance with the federal government’s request for all customs’ licensed agents to group under a single umbrella.
With an established association, an increasing number of agents opted to join as members including those from other divisions.
The name of the association was later amended to Sarawak Forwarding Agencies Association and approved by the Registrar of Societies on October 8, 2011 in order for all forwarding and logistics agents within Sarawak to be represented under one voice.
