ABU DHABI: Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) has teamed up with United Arab Emirates (UAE) based global energy company Mubadala Energy in a strategic partnership aimed at advancing environmental conservation efforts particularly in forest and habitat protection across Sarawak.
The partnership was formally established with the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the two parties in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday (Nov 6).
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the initiative aims to ensure the development of the energy sector does not negatively impact the ecosystem and biodiversity, particularly wildlife in the state.
“The collaboration between SFC and Mubadala Energy is in the field of conservation and environmental preservation.
“Our goal is to find a balance where we can develop the energy sector without harming our environment, especially wildlife.
“This includes forest conservation, and on that basis, there is an exchange of views between energy producers, including SFC, to protect our forests and habitats,” he said.
He said this during an interview with the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS) and TV Sarawak (TVS) after attending the 2024 Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC) at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) on Wednesday.
Abang Johari also said the partnership is an important step toward integrating conservation with sustainable energy development.
Earlier, Abang Johari and Mubadala Energy’s CEO and managing director Sheikh Mansoor Mohammed Al Hamed witnessed the MoU signing ceremony between SFC CEO Abang Arabi Abang Aimran and Mubadala Energy’s executive vice president of Technical and Decarbonisation, Khalfan Al Mansoori.
