KUCHING: Acting on a public tip-off, an enforcement team from Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) Sibu Regional Office and Royal Malaysian Customs Department at Sibu Airport discovered a pair of deer antlers hidden inside a suitcase of a man who had just flown in from Kuala Lumpur on July 30, 2019.
The smuggling attempt was foiled after a customs officer X-rayed his luggage.
The suspect was detained as he did not have an import permit or official document for the deer horns.
A police report on the case had also been made at the Sibu Jaya police station and the case will be investigated further by Sarawak Forestry.
Chief executive officer of SFCSB, Zolkipli Mohamad Aton, called on the public to report of any similar offences to wildlife by informing SFC.
