SIBU: Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) thanked the public for information given to them on an illegal logging operation at Mile 8, Ulu Oya Road which was foiled last Friday.
“The complaint was initially investigated by our enforcement personnel based at the nearby One-Stop Compliance Centre (OSCC) whereas the raid was conducted by a separate enforcement team from our Sibu Regional Office.
“The operation yielded 34 logs comprising various Mixed Light Hardwood (MLH) species amounting to 16 m3 in volume. All the logs were detained after it was confirmed that no licence has been issued for timber harvesting in the area concerned.
“Thanks to the public tip-off, we were able to put an early stop to this illegal logging operation. This is clear from the fact that the construction of a makeshift shed meant to house the illegal loggers is not yet completed,” said a statement issued by SFC yesterday.
A report has been lodged at Sibu Jaya Police Station.
The case would be handed over to the relevant authority for further investigation and disposal.
