KUCHING: The Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) has urged members of the public to be vigilant and cautious of their surroundings following recent crocodile attacks.

In a statement on its Facebook page, SFC warned that continuous rain has led to rising water levels, which may bring crocodiles closer to residential areas.

“Crocodiles will surface with rising water levels and can often be found near drains or riverbanks.

“In light of this, the public are advised to avoid walking or letting children play near monsoon drains or riverbanks during heavy rain or floods.”

SFC also urged the public to stay informed about crocodile-related incidents and tips to avoid areas of potential crocodile sightings.

“Take extra care of your pets during this rainy season, and do not let them roam freely.

“Always keep emergency numbers handy so that they are easy to contact in case of an incident.”

Recently, two crocodile attacks have been reported – one in Tatau and another in Kuala Baram.
