KUCHING: Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii is again coming forward to help the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) here.

“At the request of the hospital, my constituency office will try its best to assist the hospital to optimise some of the computer hardware facilities, so that medical staff can work efficiently, thereby improving the quality of patient care,” he said in his Facebook post on Monday (July 11).

He said as the leading hospital in Sarawak, it is important that SGH keeps pace with the times in terms of hardware and software equipment and meets the advanced medical technical indicators.

Since being elected as an MP in 2018, Dr Yii said his constituency office has allocated nearly RM300,000 to SGH for the purchase of medical and non-medical equipment such as defibrillators, vital signs monitors, infusion pumps, electrocardiographs, professional blood pressure monitors, beds, type bicycles, ward round carts, drug carts, and others.

“In addition, we also assist hospitals to replace damaged chairs in specialist clinics, emergency rooms, and other public areas to provide a comfortable environment for patients, their families and medical staff,” he said.

He added with the cooperation of the Kuching City North Commission (DBKU), funds were also allocated to help upgrade the bus terminal outside SGH to protect the public from the sun and rain at the waiting station.

“Apart from that, the Democratic Action Party (DAP) Kuching also called for fundraising activities.

“We raised more than RM200,000 of funds which was used to purchase medical supplies, including medical personal protective clothing, masks, medical infusion pumps, and others especially for the medical staff who are on the frontline of the COVID-19 disease to ensure their health,” he said.

Recently, Dr Yii paid a courtesy visit to SGH director Dr Ngian Hie Hung to better understand the operation and needs of the hospital.
