KUCHING: OCIM Sdn Bhd (OCIM) donated a RM130,000-ultrasound machine to the Radiology Unit of Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) as part of its commitment as a corporate sponsor for the Association of Wives of Ministers and Deputy Ministers of Sarawak (Sabati).
The symbolic handover was conducted by OCIM advisor Dr Kim Soo Yeon, who presented the machine to SABATI president, Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang, at Wisma SABATI in Petra Jaya on Monday (Sept 30).
SABATI deputy president III and honorary secretary Datin Amar Enn Ong Siok Ean said one of SABATI’s key missions is to support the healthcare system by collaborating with corporate donors to provide essential medical equipment to local hospitals, including SGH.
“Hospitals require modern medical equipment to help doctors perform at their best, as even the most skilled doctors are limited without the right tools.
“Medical equipment evolves alongside technological advancements and is typically updated every three to five years. Using equipment older than five years can still work but won’t deliver optimal results.
“With up-to-date medical equipment, doctors will be able to provide more accurate and thorough care, especially for patients in Sarawak,” she added during the donation ceremony.
For record, the need for ultrasound scans at SGH can reach up to 1,700 cases per month, and some of the hospital’s existing machines have been in use for over nine years, and are no longer functioning effectively.
The donation is expected to shorten the waiting time for ultrasound scan results from four to seven months down to two or three months.
Previously, in 2022, OCIM also contributed RM100,000 to SABATI to support the association’s healthcare programs throughout Sarawak.
Among those present at the event were SABATI honorary treasurer Datin Siti Shorgayah Ahmad Zaidin, OCI Holdings head of Communications Cha Jeang Whan, OCIM chief operating officer Datuk Dr Anas Alam Faizli, HUS deputy director (Medical) II Dr Alex Kim Ren Jye, HUS head of Radiology Dr Estrellita Elena Mohamad Tazuddin, and other SABATI exco members.
