KUCHING: The Federation of Chinese Associations in Kuching, Samarahan and Serian Divisions yesterday handed over protective medical apparel worth RM25,000 to the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) here.

The donation included 300 pairs of protective plastic shoes, 100 N95 surgical masks, and other protective medical apparel to be used by frontline medical staff to minimise the risk of infection while attending to Covid-19 patients.

Together with the president of the Federation, Datuk Richard Wee, at the hand-over session were the Women chief of the Federation Georgina Chong; chairman of the Emergency Disaster Response Committee Kapitan Tan Kok Chiang and the federation’s assistant youth leader Chin Siaw Boon.

The federation has donated to the hospital a variety of support items which included protective apparel and food.

In order to ensure that there is sufficient fund to purchase these items, the federation is appealing to corporate institutions, businesses and individuals to donate to the Emergency Disaster Response Committee.

Monetary donations can be remitted directly to The Federation of Chinese Associations in Kuching & Samarahan Division, Sarawak, Hong Leong Bank, Account number: 01600206296.

The public can deliver donations directly to the collection centre set up by the federation, which is open from Monday to Saturday (9am to 4pm) and on Sunday (10am to 2pm).

The federation has also clarified that it has not commissioned any person, firm, or organisation to solicit donations or materials from the public.
