SGTA eye five golds in Sabah meets

SIBU: Sarawak Global Taekwondo Association (SGTA) targeting five gold medals in the Sabah Open and National School Level Taekwondo Tournament (MGTF) 2017 scheduled at Wisma Tun Fuad Stephen, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah from May 5 to 7.

SGTA president, Abang Ahmad Zaini Abang Fauzan said they targeting five gold medals in any category contested.

“SGTA will be sending 30 participants in the tournament and half of them are second-liners,” he told reporters here yesterday.

According to Zaini, SGTA will be contesting in the category of below 12 years old, below 15 years old, below 17 years old and open category.

“The participants were selected from the tournament that we had been organised in Mukah,” he said, adding that the participants were representative of school and also Sarawak.

Out of 30 participants, 16 participants are girls while 14 are boys. Sarawak contingent also joined by nine officers which lead by Noor Shaffiza Yusof as a team manager.

Zaini said the participants have undergone intensive training at their respective centres in Kuching, Sibu and Mukah since last month.

“The participants who have shown excellent performances will be selected to represent Sarawak in the national level tournament which will be held in

Melaka on August,” he said, adding that they will be leave for Sabah on today.

Moreover, Zaini said that at the same tournament two years ago in Selangor, SGTA won two gold, one silver and one bronze medals.
