KUCHING: Incumbent Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii made a visit to SMK Bandar Kuching No.1 for the final inspection and handover of the shaded car park and awning (rain canopy) to the school yesterday.
Dr YII said that the school shaded car park and the awning of the school entrance, which cost more than RM90,000, were funded by his office for the convenience of the teachers and students of the school.
“In total there are 30 shaded car park spaces built for the usage of teachers and staff.
“It is connected to the nearest building so that they can be sheltered from the rain and sun on top of another awning at the entrance of the school so that students can be sheltered while waiting for their parents after school even during bad weather,” he said in a statement.
Dr YII added that previously the students had to wait and run into their parents’ cars or buses in the rain.
“But now they have a proper shelter while waiting and also when entering the cars,” he said.
For 50 years, he said Kuching Town No. 1 Secondary School had been lacking such sheltered car parks and awning.
“That is why after discussion with the school and their request, I allocated more than RM90,000 to help the school in order to provide a more conducive learning environment for the students, staff and teachers,” he concluded.
