KUALA LUMPUR: National track cyclist Muhammad Shah Firdaus Sahrom (pictured) put Malaysia on the world cycling map by winning a silver medal from the keirin event at the International Belgian Track Meet (IBTM) on Sunday.

The 27-year-old Muar-born finished behind 2022 European Champion, Sebastien Vigier of France, who represented Creteil-kronos team in Ghent.

France National Team’s Luca Priore took the bronze, according to the Belgian Track Cycling official website. Despite Malaysia having four cyclists in the semi-finals, only Muhammad Shah Firdaus managed to step onto the podium, while others failed to secure top six spots to make the final.

The country’s number one keirin rider and 2020 Tokyo Olympics silver medallist Datuk Mohd Azizulhasni Awang finished seventh, while Muhammad Fadhil Mohd Zonis and Muhammad Ridwan Shahrom took eighth and 10th places respectively.
