KUCHING: Sahabat Keadilan Sarawak chairman Iswardy Morni has been slammed for lying to and misleading Sarawakians by alleging that Shell has not paid up the five per cent State Sales Tax (SST).
Tupong assemblyman Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman said the allegation is not true and for Iswardy to make such statement will have a negative impact on Shell as a law-abiding entity.
“SST is a special ‘revenue’ given to Sarawak under the Article 7 Part V, under the Tenth schedule of the Federal Constitution (FC) (received by) the state government under Article 112c (1) (b) of the FC.
“The imposition of sales tax on petroleum raw products is an exercise of our jurisdiction provided under Article 95B (3) of the FC and is intended to bring more development to Sarawak,” he said in response to Iswardy’s remarks on his Facebook posting.
“Remember, in the Pakatan Harapan (PH) election manifesto on May 9, Promise 41 of page 90 (English version of the manifesto) PH promised to raise oil royalty from five per cent to 20 per cent. Where did this promise go? And the Prime Minister (Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad) has even announced that they cannot keep this promise,” Fazzrudin commented.
