KUCHING: The Sarawak Housing and Real Estate Developers Association (Sheda) has launched the Sheda Research & Training Sdn Bhd, or Sheda Institute, to establish a Sarawak-centric property market database.

Sheda president Augustine Wong said the institute will play a key role in promoting research and development within the property sector, aligning with Sarawak’s sustainability goals outlined in the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.

“We need dedicated research facilities to identify, understand, and propose solutions that support the growth of our industry while adhering to the Sarawak government’s sustainability principles,” he said during the Sheda Property Expo 2024 opening ceremony held at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching here today (Sept 6).

Wong added that Sheda and the Sheda Institute aim to formalise partnerships by entering into Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with GreenRE Sdn Bhd and Green Building Index Sdn Bhd in the coming months.

He said the association has been collaborating with both organisations for the past two years and views the formalisation as a step forward in promoting green building standards.

Additionally, Sheda expressed its gratitude to the Sarawak government through the International Trade, Industry and Investment Ministry, and the Sarawak Business Federation (SBF) for fully funding the Green Building Index (GBI) Facilitator Course.

“We look forward to future collaborations with Government Ministries, CIDB, Centexs, HRD Corp, and institutions of higher learning to ensure our training and research efforts are industry-relevant and forward-looking,” he added.
