KUCHING: The Sarawak Housing and Real Estate Developers Association (Sheda) Kuching Branch will be holding a seminar on strata management.

Sheda Kuching Branch chairman Sim Khiang Chiok said the seminar would be held in April next year to educate its members and strata property players about the renewed ordinance.

He said speakers from relevant government agencies and professional speakers from Malaya had been invited to share their experiences in strata management.

On the passing of the Strata Management Ordinance 2019 and Strata 2019 Subsidiary Ordinance, Sim praised the Sarawak government for approving the two ordinances.

He added that the ordinances aimed to protect the interests of home buyers and developers by systematically managing their strata units.

“The National Property Information Centre (NAPIC) records show that trends in Sarawak are moving towards condominium/apartment development as a lifestyle.

“With the increase in the number of medium and high-rise apartments in urban areas such as Kuching and Samarahan, professional building management is crucial to sustainability which is also a priority of the Management Corporation,” he said during the Sheda Kuching Branch Pre-Christmas programme on Saturday.

Sim added that the Bill for the two ordinances would assist developers in managing the buildings and facilities professionally until the Management Corporation was formed.

He reminded members that the Home Ownership Campaign (HOC) would end on Dec 31 this year.

He said there were still two weeks for buyers to buy a home and get 10 per cent off with a free duty stamp exemption by participating developers.

He added it would be of great benefit to the industry if the federal government expanded the campaign.

The pre-Christmas programme held at a cafe here was attended by 80 Sheda members.

Also present were Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian, Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng and Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang.
