KUCHING: A fishing tackle shop at Kota Sentosa Commercial Centre has lost RM35,000 worth of fishing equipment to burglars.

Padawan district police chief, Supt Aidil Bolhassan, said that the thieves entered the shop through a hole that they made in an adjoining connecting wall separating a stairwell and the shop.

He said the break-in happened early last Wednesday, and when the owner went there around 9am, he was shocked to see that the shop had been ransacked.

“The owner discovered that most of his stock and cash amounting to RM300 were gone. Among the items stolen were various brands of fishing rods, lines and reels. He estimated the total loss at approximately RM35,000,” Aidil said in a statement.

Aidil noted that the shop had no closed circuit television (CCTV) system.

The police, he said, were looking for the thieves and investigating the case under Section 457 of the Penal Code.
