KUCHING: More Malaysians are confident about travelling now as Shopee noted a two-thirds increase in bookings for buses and flights on its platform in the first two weeks of Jan 2022 compared to the same period in Dec 2021.

In particular, an uptick of 10 times was observed for Chinese New Year travel dates from Jan 24 to Feb 2, 2022.

“They appear to be taking necessary precautions to reunite with their families and loved ones as observed by increased demand for face masks and ShopeePay Vouchers for Covid-19 test kits on the platform,” according to Shopee Malaysia marketing campaigns head Kenneth Soh.

“We will continue to work closely with our travel partners to provide a seamless, safe and stress-free booking experience for flights, buses and hotels on our platform so Malaysians will have a memorable and enjoyable reunion this Chinese New Year (CNY).”

Shopee is partnering with Agoda, Airpaz and Easybook.com for the CNY Travel Campaign from now till Jan 26.

Users who booked during the campaign period will automatically be enrolled into a lucky draw where they stand to win the grand prize of a three-day, two-night stay at Camar Langkawi Resort with RM250 Flights Voucher.

Echoing Soh, Airpaz business development vice-president Wesley Wijaya said they were projecting a 100 per cent increase in air travel bookings for Jan this year on both its platform and Shopee, compared to Dec last year.

Meanwhile, Easybook.com managing director William Lee said they noted an uptrend for bus bookings, with Penang, Perak, Kuala Lumpur and Johor some of the top destinations.

For Agoda Malaysia and Brunei country director Cleland Robertson, she said the partnership with Shopee made travel even more accessible and as seamless and hassle-free as possible.
