KUCHING: Plaza Merdeka has issued a statement on an incident involving a toddler and a shattered automatic glass door at the India Street entrance last night (Nov 21).
The management confirmed that the child, who suffered a minor cut from the incident, has been treated.
Plaza Merdeka expressed relief that the injury was not more serious and assured the public that the situation is being followed up.
The management also took the opportunity to remind parents and guardians to always keep a close watch on young children to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The incident occurred around 8 pm when a young family exited the building.
As the family stepped out, the toddler, slightly over 2 feet tall, briefly wandered back to check on his mother, who was still inside.
The child, believed to be outside the sensor’s detection range due to his height, was not detected by the automatic door, causing it to close and bump into him.
The force of the impact caused the tempered glass door to shatter, resulting in a minor injury above the child’s hairline.
Plaza Merdeka said the toddler was rushed to the hospital, where his wound was treated and an X-ray confirmed no further damage. He was discharged later.
Plaza Merdeka’s statement concluded with a reminder for all visitors to ensure the safety of young children while at the premises.
