KABONG: Employers have been urged to given working women the time and space they need to ensure their babies are breastfed.

They can either allow them the opportunity to express milk for their infants or provide for mothers to breastfeed their babies directly.

Kabong assemblyman Mohd Chee Kadir who made the call said all mothers, including those who work, are expected to be able to breastfeed their babies.

“Thus, the employer’s role is important to provide a special space for mothers to express milk for their baby’s supply during the work day.

“And employers are encouraged to set up childcare centres in the workplace to allow mothers to breastfeed their babies directly during breaks and to send expressed milk supplies to their babies,” he said.

He said this at the closing of World Breastfeeding Day here, yesterday.

With such support from employers, there is no reason for mothers not to give their milk to their babies even on work days, he said.

The programme was organised by the Kabong Health Clinic in collaboration with the Kabong Health Clinic Advisory Panel.

At the same event Mohd Chee also donated a set of sofa for use in the breastfeeding room and 15 office desks for use by Kabong Health Clinic staff.

Kabong Health Clinic Advisory Panel Chairman Bujang Lee and Kabong Health Clinic Medical Officer Dr Khairah Afira Rozali were also present.
