LUNDU: Sarawakians have been asked to demonstrate they can live peacefully with each other despite differences in race or religion.

Tanjong Datu assemblywoman Datin Patinggi Datuk Amar Jamilah Anu made the call when attending the Tanjong Datu Chap Goh Mei Parade at the Town Square here on Saturday night.

Over 1,000 spectators from Kuching and Sabah were present at the unique cultural show.

“Nowadays, many people have been praising Lundu as it becomes more beautiful and much has changed, especially Lundu Town.

“We will celebrate each festival together,” Jamilah said, adding that she contributed RM20,000 to the organising of the parade to ensure that everyone in the community could celebrate it with harmony and unity.

“We should not think as one race but as one Sarawak because we have various races and religions such as Malay, Chinese, Indian and others,” she stressed.

The Chap Goh Mei Parade featured Chinese calligraphy by Shin Bong Xiong, Malay dance performances by SK Bumiputera Lundu, Iban traditional dance performances and other dance performances by Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Cina Lundu and its kindergarten.
