MELAKA: Former national team captain Shukor Adan cherishes the dream of taking Melaka United to the AFC Cup tournament.
The 39-year-old Melaka-born, who will see action in the Malaysia League next season, said age is not an obstacle for him in taking the Mousedeer squad to greater heights.
“Players newly brought in to Melaka United are not here just to earn a salary but to gain the success that we can be proud of.
“With the undivided support of the fans, we will surely not disappoint. We will strive to
qualify for the final,” he told Bernama.
The defender said the players need some time to become compatible with one another, especially among the local and import players, to prepare themselves to be a great team.
Shukor said he hoped that the fans would not place their hopes too high but the players would strive to perform well.
On the question of who would be the captain of the squad, he said that would be left to head coach Zainal Abidin Hassan to decide.
“Whether it is Safiq (Rahim), Razman (Roslan) or I should not be turned into an issue. Every one of us has our strong points. It is more important for us to consider how best to raise the performance of the team,” he said.
Meanwhile, Safiq said he wanted to give his best by following the coach’s plan on the field.
“Many of us are new faces in the team, but what is important is for us to work together to help Melaka United,” he said. –Bernama
