SIBU: A brother and sister in their 50s have been arrested for alleged cultivation and possession of cannabis plants.

Sibu police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said a team from the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division raided the suspect’s residence in Lorong Rambai here at 12.15 am yesterday (May 24).

“Two black bags containing plants suspected to be cannabis and a black bag containing soil and dried leaves suspected to be cannabis-type drugs estimated to be worth RM20,000 were found.

“Police also confiscated a vehicle valued at RM80,000, from the suspects,” he told a press conference here today.

The 50-year-old man and his 55-year-old sister tested negative for drugs and have no prior criminal record.

They are remanded for four days from May 24 for further investigations and the case is being investigated under Section 6B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

“If found guilty, the accused could face life imprisonment, as well a minimum of six strokes of the cane,” he said.

Zulkipli appealed to the public who have information regarding drugs activities including cultivation of forbidden plants to alert the police.
