Sibu and Kuching record over 40 cases each

KUCHING: Having changed their pandemic status from orange to red, Sibu and Kuching districts have recorded 44 and 41 local cases, respectively, over the past 14 days.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) on Sunday (Jan 10), said also reported that Selangau and Sebauh also changed status from green to yellow zone with both districts having one case each in the same period.

Samarahan, Miri, Bintulu, Meradong, Bukit Mabong and Sri Aman districts remain yellow with overall 20 local cases in the same period.

Thirty other districts in the state remain green.

The committee also said that there were two new recovery and discharged cases with one each from Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) and Sibu Hospital. This brought the cumulative total of recovered and discharged cases to 1,096 or 85.96 percent of the total cases.

It stated that 160 patients are currently treated at hospital isolation wards with 67 in SGH, 60 in Sibu Hospital, 25 in Miri Hospital, and eight in Bintulu Hospital.

SDMC also said there are 46 new persons-under-investigation (PUI), while 16 are still awaiting test results.

On the number of persons under surveillance (PUS), SDMC said 643 have registered in hotels across the state to undergo quarantine. The total number now is 5,148.

A total of 49,877 PUS have completed their quarantine period and were allowed to return home.
