SIBU: Preparations for the 21st Malaysia Games (SUKMA XXI) in Sibu have reached its final stages.

Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee said the town is ready to welcome SUKMA athletes who will be competing in Sibu.

“We are ready and excited to receive guests from other parts of Malaysia for these three sports categories. There are just a few final touches left to complete,” he said.

He said this when speaking to reporters after officiating the Seberkas Pelawan 722 Run For Sarawak programme in conjunction with the Sarawak Day celebration today (July 21).

Tiang, who is overseeing the badminton events, hopes the people of Sibu will warmly welcome the guests coming to town for SUKMA XXI.

“I hope that the residents of Sibu will all act as hosts for SUKMA. Let’s give our guests from other regions a great impression of Sibu. Welcome them warmly and show them the hospitality of the people of Sibu,” he added.

Sibu Division is set to host three sporting events for SUKMA: badminton, volleyball, and football, scheduled from August 12 to 27.

These events will take place at four venues, namely the Sibu Indoor Stadium (badminton), Rejang Park Volleyball Court (volleyball), Stadium Tun Zaidi Adruce (football), and Azman Hashim Community Sports Centre (football).
