SIBU: The first day of the movement control order (MCO) enforcement here today displayed a relaxed and quiet atmosphere.
Before the implementation of the MCO, Sibu had always been a busy city, filled with the hustle and bustle of cars with places filled with visitors and patrons.
Areas such as Sibu Central Market, Jalan Central, Jalan Lebuh Tinggi, Jalan Khoo Peng Loong, Jalan Wong Nai Siong and Jalan Lanang which are usually busy, were very quiet today.
Not so many people have gone out into the town centre today and due to that, the main road was rather quiet and the average Sibu residents chose to stay home.
Throughout the MCO, businesses allowed to open include coffee shops, the central market, pharmacies and other important service sectors.
Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) Chairman Clarence Ting Ing Horh, when contacted today, continued to remind Sibu residents to stay home and not to leave their homes unless they have some important matters to attend to.
“Wear a face mask and follow the standard operating procedures (SOPs) if you ever want to go out,” he said.
He was happy to see that the MCO enforcement in Sibu was complied with by the public.
Ting hoped that the public would continue to comply with the SOP guidelines and remain at home.
“Even though on Friday 43 positive Covid-19 cases were recorded from the Pasai Cluster, it does not mean the situation has recovered.
“What is important during this MCO is to sit at home so that we are able to break the chain of infection from the Pasai Cluster,” he added.
