SIBU: Preparations for the 21st Malaysia Games (Sukma 2024) badminton events at the Sibu Indoor Stadium are progressing well and remain on schedule to be completed in time for the competition.

Venue manager Haider Kowel Bete said the preparations are currently 80 per cent complete, with only minor finishing touches left to ensure everything is in perfect order.

“There’s just a bit of tidying up to be done. Tomorrow, we’ll commence the court adjustment sessions, where contingents will test the courts according to the schedule we’ve provided,” he said when met by Sarawak Tribune at the badminton venue today.

He also assured that everything would be fully ready for the test courts tomorrow.

Meanwhile, when asked about expected spectator turnout, Haider said they anticipate a crowd of around 1,000 to 1,500 people.

“Fans and members of the public are welcome to attend. The upper section of the stadium will be open, and we expect it to accommodate between 1,000 and 1,500 spectators. So, don’t worry, come along and enjoy the event, entry is free,” he added.

Sibu Division is set to host three events: badminton, volleyball, and football, from Aug 12 to 27.

These events will take place at four venues: Sibu Indoor Stadium (badminton), Rejang Park Volleyball Court (volleyball), Stadium Tun Zaidi Adruce (football), and Azman Hashim Community Sports Centre (football).

For badminton, a total of six events will be held, including men’s singles, women’s singles, mixed doubles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles, and mixed team.
