SIBU: Sibu Jaya township is no longer a ‘pedalaman’ (rural area), said Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
“When I entered Sibu Jaya, it felt like entering another state because Sibu Jaya has undergone significant transformation.
“The landscape has changed, with colourful lights. This shows that Sibu Jaya is no longer a ‘pedalaman’; it looks beautiful,” he said in his speech at the Carnival Sibu Jaya 2023 Concert at Azman Hashim Community Sport Centre here last night (Oct 7).
Abang Johari congratulated the residents of Sibu Jaya for living harmoniously together, despite coming from different races and backgrounds.
“You live as if you are one family, under one roof. That is Sibu Jaya, and that is Sarawak, ‘Segulai Sejalai,'” he emphasised
Meanwhile, Amcorp Group Sdn Bhd Executive Chairman Tan Sri Azman Hashim said that he is happy to note that 2023 is another good year for Sibu Jaya and for the whole of Sarawak.
“Thanks to the stable and dynamic state government under the leadership of Abang Johari, we definitely see tremendous economic growth alongside a good social order where people from various religions, cultures and backgrounds continue to interact peacefully and harmoniously,” he said.
Azman also noted the continuous evolution in Sibu Jaya, foreseeing a prosperous future for the township under its current trajectory.
The concert, attended by 10,000 people, featured renowned Malaysian singers like Hafiz Suip, Dayang Nurfaizah, Bob Yusuf, and others.
Abang Johari himself joined in the festivities, delighting the audience with his renditions of ‘Bekikis Bulu Betis’ and his favourite song, ‘Kasih Sayang’.
