SIBU: Seventeen secondhand business premises were inspected during ‘Ops Lusuh’ from July 18 to 19.

Sibu police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said one individual was arrested under Section 379 of the Penal Code for possession of suspected stolen motorcycle components.

“Three premises faced action under Section 6 of the Second Hand Dealers Act 1946 for operating without a licence to trade in secondhand goods,” he stated in a statement today (July 21).

Zulkipli added one premise was fined by the Sibu Health Office for not maintaining cleanliness to prevent mosquito breeding.

The operation was a collaborative effort involving PDRM, the Sibu Municipal Council (SMC), the Sibu Health Office, the Sibu Immigration Department, the Sibu Land and Survey Department, Sarawak Energy Sibu, the Sibu Water Board, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission Sibu, TM-Telekom Sibu, the Sibu Rural District Council and representatives from telecommunications companies.

“The aim of the operation was to ensure all secondhand business owners comply with the conditions of their licences, do not purchase or store stolen goods, and possess a valid secondhand dealer’s licence as required by the Second Hand Dealers Act 1946,” he added.
