SIBU: Sibu Indoor Stadium at Jalan Tuanku Bujang will be used as the latest quarantine centre for this division should the need arise.
This was revealed by the head of the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) Sibu division and Resident, Charles Siaw when contacted on Sunday (Jan 10).
The Sibu Resident also said that the centre would be activated no later than this Wednesday (Jan 13).
“Our preparations are almost completed. Tents are being set up inside the stadium.
Siaw explained that Sibu currently had four quarantine centres, namely the Sibu Diocesan Pastoral Centre, Kemuyang Youth Camp and two hotels.
He revealed that those who came to Sibu from outside of Sarawak would undergone mandatory quarantine at the hotels and that there was no more home quarantine since Jan 8.
“The next flight from outside Sarawak to Sibu is on this Wednesday (Jan 13),” he said.
Meanwhile, speaking about the residents of eight longhouses who were under lockdown following the existence of the Pasai Cluster, he stressed that they were not allowed to leave their longhouses.
“So, in this way, they are considered quarantined in their own longhouses,” he said.
Siaw said that he had not yet received any information so far when asked about the latest development of Covid-19 cases.
“We will have to wait for SDMC to hold a press conference or for it to issue an official statement in Kuching,” he added.
Siaw added the Sibu Hospital Health Department had started to conduct Covid-19 screening and examinations of the public, especially those attended the funeral ceremony at Rumah Langi, Pasai Siong from December 29 to 31, at Lanang Health Clinic and Sibu Jaya Health Clinic from 9am till noon on Sunday (Jan 10).
The Covid-19 screening and examinations will continue on Monday to Friday (January 11 to 15) from 8am until 4.30pm at both clinics.
