KUCHING: The stretch of the Pan Borneo Highway between Selangau and Sibu has not been maintained regularly and users are displeased with its poor condition.
There’s a lot of damage with potholes and puddles which could endanger road users.
Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) youth exco member Henry Kanyan Vincent Rawing said the road is so bad that vehicle tyres could get punctured.
“Many people are not happy with the road and they made their plight known through the social media almost every day,” he told reporters during a visit to inspect the road.
He requested the Public Works Department (PWD) and Lebuhraya Borneo Utara (LBU) to take note of the complaints and deal with them seriously.
He said that traffic along the road had increased due to the school holiday and he predicted that it would get worse in the days leading up to Christmas until the end of the year.
“We are aware that the road is undergoing construction, hence the rough condition, but the situation has to be mitigated as much as possible for the safety of motorists,” he said.
Kanyan also urged the PWD and LBU to increase the number of lights particularly at detours and dangerous areas.
Other than him, other Selangau residents and road users are also lamenting the poor road condition.
Many on Facebook have been urging the authorities and Selangau MP to remind the contractors to constantly look after the road so that there won’t be too many potholes.
