SIBU: Students graduating from Sibu Vocational College (KVS) are capable of being independent and accepted in the job market.
Its director Jamali Muhamad said the employability of the 2022 cohort students who just graduated last March was 73.33 per cent, of which 59.05 per cent were employed and 9.52 per cent were furthering their studies.
“For graduates of the 2020 cohort, the marketability is 96.46 per cent, where a total of 82.30 per cent have been employed, while 14.16 per cent are continuing their studies and waiting for job placement.
“For the 2021 cohort, the employability is as high as 92.96 per cent, that is, 71.04 per cent of students have worked and 21.92 per cent have continued their studies. What makes us happy is that a total of 21.05 per cent have become entrepreneurs.
“Thus, with this data, we can conclude that the students graduating from KVS can be independent and accepted in the job market.
“We hope that parents’ and the community’s lack of confidence in the ability of KVS to produce skilled and competitive graduates will be erased according to the evidence in front of our eyes,” he said.
He said this in his speech at the annual general meeting (AGM) of the KVS Parents and Teachers Association (PTA) for the 2023–2024 session today (April 15).
The AGM was officiated by the Political Secretary to the Premier Sayed Azmee Wan Junaidi, who represented the Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation, and Talent Development Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee.
According to Jamali, KVS currently has a total of 652 students, and they aim for 70 per cent of its graduates to work, 20 per cent to continue their education, and 10 per cent to become entrepreneurs.
In the meantime, he said that so far two programmes have received full recognition from the Malaysian Board of Technology (MBOT), namely Electronic Technology (a five-year programme) and Electrical Technology (a four-year programme).
“In addition, four programmes, namely, Cosmetology, Fashion Design, Business Management, and Bakery and Pastry, have received full accreditation from the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA),” he said.
Therefore, he said, to ensure the success of all these programmes, collaboration with external parties is very crucial.
“This is very important so that our students can undergo their industrial training successfully. The addition of braids and nets will always be worked on from time to time,” he said.
Also present was the college PTA chairman Mohamad Ali Kupon.
